Go Vacation producer shares controller ideas for a Wii U sequel

Go Vacation screenshot

Masaya Kobayashi, known for his work on the Ridge Racer series and the Wii’s Go Vacation, has shared his thoughts on how the Wii U might accommodate a potential Go Vacation sequel. He sees the touchscreen controller as a device better suited towards the couch, ideal for complementing more active gameplay by other players.

Here’s a quick idea, for example – I imagine if kids are going to be playing on the big TV to play a casual game, the parents might be in the background using the tablet controller. The kids are having fun moving and bouncing around, but sometimes adults don’t really want to move around that much. So the parents can support the kids by clicking icons on the controller, or something.

Specifically, he mentioned the possibilities of using the controller as a “camera device” to take in-game pictures, and as a racing wheel.

Honestly, when I first saw the title, I rolled my eyes thinking “Oh, Lord. More shovelware.” But this actually seems like a legit idea. Kudos to you, Masaya.

  3. Excellent. I was hoping we’d see more of these cute, gorgeously designed open-world games from this team continue on future Nintendo platforms. Haven’t picked up Go Vacation or Yuji Naka’s Fishing Resort yet, but will, and I’ve enjoyed both We Ski games thoroughly. The more games like these the Wii U and 3DS see, the better. I’d love to see them give some of these cute open-world games more of a plot, too – perhaps see them try their hand at a little something Shenmue-influenced or a modern day set whimsical action RPG using the visual style of the We Ski games and Go Vacation. That could be really fresh and certainly work well on the Wii U and/or 3DS. As is, this team’s games are pure relaxation – they appeal to a very broad audience and have done well as a result, but they’re the furthest thing from shovelware. A rare example of a team in the industry making these kinds of games the right way, not treating the wider audience like a bunch of suckers.

  4. Yeah!! I love Go Vacation and would LOVE to see a Go Vacation II on the Wii U.

I imagine using the tablet controller also as a map and also to give the user the chance to see the go vacation world in 360° degrees using its gyro sensor as the 3ds with Legend of Zelda Ocarine of Time.

I also hope this time they will add more multiplayer options and online interactions with real people.

Go Vacation was (and is) a fantastic title for Wii: botn my kids love just roaming around in the resorts, having great fun and relaxing (the seldom play the minigames), and even our 5-year old son can play it unassisted. We have played it more than all our other wii titles combined, Wii Sports Resort included. Anyone with kids and a wii should by this title, and it is also very fun and relaxing for adults. I sincerely hope they will make a Wii U version.

  13. hayley

Make it for the wii because i dont have a wii u and i dony wanna have to buy one just because i want this game

  14. HorseAddict

Please make it! And also, I have some ideas:

-Able to bring Land Gear to the Villa Grounds (Horses, Off-Road Cars, ATVs, etc.)

-(seen from GoVacationAddict’s ideas, not mine. But the last part is an Add-On) Horse trailers, and we can bring our Horses to other Resorts.

-Able to Exit the Resorts or Villa Grounds and travel to other Resorts without having to talk to the person.

-Being able to interact with your Horse and Dog

-Making Horses more of a pet than gear.

-(Again, from GoVacationAddict’s ideas) Four-seated Off-Road Cars, and able to place your dog in the car.

-(More of a repeat from my first one) Able to keep your Horses at the Villa Grounds, like in a barn. And able to get a Dog House or Dog Bed for your dog to sleep.

-Able to become known for something (Like become a famous singer, skateboarder, dancer, etc.)

-Able to interact with your Buddy

-More Treasure, and maybe a Guide for the treasure, for if you’re having trouble finding a certain chest, the Guide can give you a hint of where it is.

Please do a go Vacation sequel! I’m a big fan of go Vacation! I don’t care if i’m going to do all the activicties again!!!!!

  16. Justin

I would love Go Vacation for the Wii U!!! I love Go Vacation, it is my all time favorite game! If there is a sequel, would it be an entirely different island or still Kawaii Island? I think it would be pretty sweet to have a completely different island with new games, keys, and treasure chests. If a Wii U version does come out, I would like to be notified via e-mail. Thanks!
