Sakurai ready to begin work on Smash Bros. Wii U

Super Smash Bros. was announced for the Wii U and 3DS back at E3 2011. Since then, it has become one of the most anticipated games coming to the Wii U even though development hadn’t even started.

It now seems that Masahiro Sakurai is finally ready to get to work on the titles. Over the months after E3, Sakurai has teased some ideas for Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS. However, he said that he would not start work on the titles until Kid Icarus: Uprising for the 3DS was finished.

With the Kid Icarus release date now less than a month away, Sakurai has tweeted that he is looking over Smash Bros. Dojo, the official site of Super Smash Bros. Brawl, as a start. Seemingly happy with that game, he tweeted: “It’s tremendous. How did we make this?”

It’s great to see work may have finally started. Now all we have to do is wait for the first details to come out.

    Finally

  2. Myst

Truly amazing to hear. I can only wonder what it will look like on 3DS AND Wii U. I expect to see plenty of new characters, both from Nintendo and third-parties, plus a better online feature. Hopefully we’ll see a teaser of it at E3 this year. :]

Truly amazing to hear. I can only wonder what new features will be available on the 3DS and Wii U. I expect to see the HD-ness of the Wii U and second screen to play a huge role in its gamplay. Hopefully we’ll get to see a teaser of it at E3 this year. :]

I know Sakurai said he wants to focus on the features of the game but I really want to see the next game 50+ characters and the ability to unlock costumes (mario has dr. mario suit, link has toon link etc) which can alter some parts of the characters moveset. That a solid online and some new fight tactics like being able to counter-throw or turn while your charging up a side smash attack and the game will be perfect imo.

kid icarus multi-player has a real smash bros vibe about it from what iv seen im impressed

    • nintendo teen

it has a vibe like some fantasy game + war game + smash bros game + 3D game + and much chaos 😀 i think the multiplayer is awsome

It’s incredible how much Sakurai’s touch is prevelent in his games. The checklist in Air Ride is pretty much the glass windows in brawl. Kirby, Smash, and Icarus all have food as the main health restorer, adventure mode in SSBB itself is often considered a Kirby-type game, the Origin in Icarus is almost exactly the same as the dragoon in SSBB in terms of usage… i could go on. Gives it a nice touch, imho.
