The Wii U controller “resonated” with Ubisoft

Ghost Recon Online

It’s no secret that Ubisoft love the Wii U. But while you might be quick to dismiss this as corporate excitement at getting another platform to pump heaps of shovelware out on, Ubisoft’s Hugues Ricour proves that the company truly sees potential in the new console.

The new controller especially resonated with us – for us it is the physical manifestation of the Cross Com 2.0 device. It is an actual physical device that elite forces around the world carry with them to give them a tactical advantage. With Ghost Recon Online Wii U, it’s not just tactical, but also tactile – the Cross Com and its entire arsenal of cool new tech are now literally at your fingertips.

The “Cross Com 2.0” is an electronic tactical map in Ghost Recon Online that will help players develop strategies and plans for attack. Markers placed on the map by the player’s fingertips will appear in the world on the TV as beacons or icons.

Ricour also mentioned a social network known as “GhostNet”, which he bills as “a handheld window into online activity”. It will be accessible entirely from the touchscreen controller and will facilitate communication with fellow players of the game and the ability to set up matches.
