Ubisoft developing exclusive first-person shooter for the Wii U

Ubisoft recently revealed that they were developing two new IP’s for the Nintendo Wii U and now the first details about one of them are coming out. The game is called Killer Freaks From Outer Space and is an exclusive first-person shooter for the Wii U.

Killer Freaks From Outer Space is set in London (horaay!) and you play as one of a few survivors taking down a hoard of killer aliens with a host of weapons. Aiming is done using the Wii U’s new controller and you move your character using the control sticks. Points and rewards are given for kills and the game will have some destructible environments.

The controller will act as a viewpoint so if you move the controller the character’s view moves in that direction. The controller can also be used to show what’s happening on the TV.

Some of the other features included are:

  • 1 Vs 1 play where the other person uses a classic controller
  • Use the Wii U controller to get an overhead view
  • The accelerometer usage: If you more fast then the character will turn fast

Ubisoft are convinced that their game will change how first person shooters are played. Whether this points to the fact that there will not be optional controls (for example, aiming with control sticks instead of moving the controller) is unknown at the moment.

This is what Guillemon had to say about Killer Freaks on the Wii U. “When Nintendo launches a new console, it’s always a big milestone for the industry and a great opportunity for creativity,” said Yves Guillemot, chief executive office at Ubisoft. “Killer Freaks will make the most of all the fantastic capabilities of the Wii U and provide hardcore players with a gaming experience like no other they have seen or played before.”

Looks hilarious. I’m a fan of the Wiimote and Nunchuck for FPS games, but I’m keen to see how the new controller is used for this.

I’d as well hope for Wii remotes to be useable, but I’d still buy it none the less. As I’ve said at least 1 million times, I rarely ever do local MP. I think that Nintendo is going to have a wide variety of games at launch.

  4. Epic Kirby

I wonder if there is online, even if there isn’t it still looks pretty fun.

Is there any gameplay in this trailer or is it all live-action? The bit with the circular saw-gun looks like it could be, but it’s hard to tell.

If there was gameplay footage, then I am really impressed with Ubisoft. Looking forward to seeing how this goes and I hope it includes online play.
