Xbox 720 to be revealed at E3? EA denies it.

Is Microsoft preparing a Wii 2 challenger?

If the latest rumours are to be believed then it seems that Microsoft is gearing up to challenge the Wii 2 at E3. The website Develop Online has been told by a source that EA has the successor to the Xbox 360 and is busily getting to grips with it.

Quite often when new consoles come around they’re packaged into a PC shell, but actually what’s inside is an entirely new console,” the source claims.

Microsoft has declined to comment on the issue and at first so did EA but now they have come out completely dismissing the rumours. “This story is very contrived, 100% not true.”

It does seem very unlikely that Microsoft will be delivering a surprise announcement of their successor at E3. This would directly go against the rumoured 2014 release for an Xbox successor. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has also refered to Kinect as the “next generation Xbox 360” and that they will be focusing their efforts on Kinect.

If Microsoft is developing their Wii 2 challenger then it is probably in the very early stages and we’re unlikely to see it for some time. In reality, it seems like it going to be a bit of a quiet E3 for Microsoft in comparison to its competitors.

I agree. Although told by a source from EA, I feel this to be just a rumor started because some xbox fanboy who did not want Nintendo getting all the spotlight.

As mentioned above Xbox just released another revision of the 360 console just like the PS3 slim. I also though of this new 360, as the Kinect console, I was very close to buying one but since I purchased my fatboy PS3 a year and a half ago, I decided to wait to see what happens in the industry.
