Miyamoto is interested in putting Retro Studios on a future Zelda game

Retro Studios Logo

Retro Studios, Nintendo’s prize Western studio, just wrapped up Mario Kart 7, a collaborative project between them and Nintendo EAD. What’s next for the house that brought us Metroid Prime and Donkey Kong Country Returns?

Miyamoto is confident at this point that Retro has what it takes to handle a new Zelda adventure as a new, equally awesome collaborative project.

As you know, we have already collaborated with Retro for the Metroid Prime series in the past. And I think when we talk about any other franchise, Zelda might be a possible franchise for that collaboration.

Retro Studios was reportedly one of the first studios to get a Wii U development kit, back when we still called it “Project Café”. Moreover, an alleged quip from a Retro employee claimed that they were working on “a project that everyone wants [them] to do.”

Now, I don’t know about you, but a Retro-developed (or co-developed) Zelda adventure definitely sounds like something I’d pick up in a heartbeat.

They can deal with this. They always do great works and never disappointed. But i prefer they work in F-zero, Metroid or StarFox.

    • I agree. I’d much rather see Retro working on either F-Zero or StarFox. Those two franchises must be revived; and what better system to do it on than the Wii U.

  2. I am worried about the future of Retro Studios. Reason for that is that all key designers of Metroid Prime and Donkey Kong Country Returns have left the company since July.

Nintendo is one weird company. They don’t care about the hardware, yet don’t push out enough software to carry their system by themselves. They could push out major and minor relases every year with some new western IP throw in for good measure. Take your money that’s in the bank and grow your software houses from within. They are like the dog with two bones story when it comes to their hardware and software, you are either the best software company in the world or not. You can do both poorly, though.

Listen troll. If you don’t like Nintendo and their games, don’t freaking post it here! Rant and complain somewhere else!!!!!!

The biggest surprise for me was Retro Studios had powered Metroid Prime for the GameCube by Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 2. If Retro and Nintendo create a new Zelda game for the Wii U and it’s powered by a graphics engine (either Unreal 3 or CryENGINE3), it’s gonna blow their competition out of the water!

Oh this sucks! i mean, im sure a retro studios zelda game would rock, but nintendo itself has done zelda awesomely well in the past. But they sucked with starfox, and the last metroid. I’d love it if retro focused on those.
