Sega pegs Wii U for spring/summer 2012 launch

Sega

Sega’s Alan Pritchard said in an interview with GameSpot about Sonic Generations (which he also deconfirmed for the Wii U) that Nintendo’s new console is coming to store shelves in either the spring or summer of 2012. If anything, this fits with everything we’ve heard about the system’s release date so far, including Iwata’s statement that it was coming after April and an earlier rumour of a June launch.

The timing just doesn’t work. Generations releases this November, and the Wii U is coming out next spring/summer.

Tough luck, SEGA. I’m sure they’ll find a way to work it all out in the end, but maybe Generations will have to be scrapped for the Wii U and be replaced by a different Sonic installment latter on. I’m not sure what will actually happen, but for some reason I’m hoping to see a Sonic Adventure 3 for the Wii U. Sure, the game’s been discuses about for quite some time now, whether it will ever exists or is just a dream….but after seeing the most recent and well received Sonic games SEGA’s made, (Sonic Colors & Sonic Generations) it seems like there’s hope for the game to emerge. Though I still have both hope and doubt towards the chance of it happening, it would be nice…..especially if they brought back the Chao Gardens, even if they seem somewhat childish, I liked them.

I second Sonic Adventure 3 for Wii U!
Chao were the single greatest implementation of A-life into any video game ever. The WIi U, being the powerhouse that it is, could bring that even further!

      Do it SEGA!

If Sonic Generations is any good when it’s released this fall then you can bank on it being released on Wii U next year.

While it will be a shame for Sonic Generations to maybe not appear on the Wii U I am lookinhg forward to seeing what SEGA do with the tech with reference to Sonic.

I thought maybe SEGA could use the screen on controller as a 2-D platform version of their future release, while all this is playing on the handheld screen a 3D representation is playing on the TV in front of you and Vice versa (As in playing a 3d version on screen as the Wii U handheld screen plays a 2D representation).

That way both classic Sonic fans and Sonic Adventur 1 + 2 fans are happy.
