Wii U has 50% more processing power than PS3/360

It was rumoured that the Wii U was as powerful if not more powerful than the PS3 and Xbox 360. When it was revealed at E3 it was obvious that it was packing some serious power. Now the analyst, Arvind Bhatia has claimed that developers he had spoken to have said that the Wii U is quite a bit more powerful than the PS3 and 360.

“Some of the developers we spoke to indicated to us that the console will have 50 percent more processing power compared to the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. This is yet to be confirmed by Nintendo.” He said.

This isn’t too much of a surprise after we’ve seen the console stream images to its controller with apparently no lag.

So, is it powerful enough?

I think this is poo, because the Wii 2 (not calling it Wii U) CPU is beast, probably 4x the PS3 CPU and if they are using the R700 GPU, the powerful CPU would be pointless.

iv red what ubisoft say about cpu there descibing a high clock speed 3xcore broadway cpu ,just seems weird is it multi core broadway + EDRAM or custom power7 ether way its got ibm edram YUM..

Its best not to focus on this report before we get more information. Merely 50% more powerful is extremely underwhelming when previous rumors placed Wii U four to six times as powerful as Xbox 360. However without knowing how they came up with this 50% more powerful figure it doesn’t really mean much. This could merely mean developers told the analyst that the clock speeds are 50% faster. Often individuals wrongly assume faster the clock more powerful the processor. In reality there are more powerful cpu’s than Xenon in Xbox 360 that are clocked at lower speeds. Then if the theoretical gflops of Wii U’s CPU is 350 gflops then at merely 50% more processing power than PS3 it still would be around four times the processing power of Xbox 360 placing the Wii U back in line with the early rumors.

This is probably the first percentage they’ve gotten…..and chances are the real percentage is much higher. As I remember reading a post on this site about a never shown demo for one of their Wii U games that completely whipped out their previous ones shown at E3 and that this much greater graphical video was not permitted to be shown on any site because of this fact. So all in all, Nintendo may not have shown all the Wii U had to offer yet in terms of the power behind its functions and therefore has left the processing limit undetermined.
