Nintendo not attending Gamescom this year
Nintendo are throwing people for a loop this year in saying they will not be attending the annual Gamescom convention in Cologne, Germany. Given that the convention pulled in roughly 275,000 attendees last year, as well as the fact that Nintendo have attended the event every year prior, this is a peculiar move.
Silja Gülicher, Press Officer for Nintendo of Germany, made a statement regarding this decision:
Whilst Gamescom is a fantastic show, we have taken the decision not to attend this year’s event. Instead we are planning a number of sampling events later this year inline with the European Marketing-, PR- and Event-activities in which our fans will have the opportunity to play upcoming games. Further details will be announced soon.
Nintendo’s not usually for pulling moves without good reason, so hopefully they have this planned out well enough that missing out on a quarter-million people won’t hurt them.
What do you think? Could this possibly hurt Nintendo in marketing the Wii U and their other products for the 2012 year?

IMO, this means Nintendo will be having their own Wii U conference around this time like they did in January 2011 for the 3DS.
There Wii U hardware probably isn’t ready yet. I don’t think Nintendo doesn’t want to show there games off when the graphics aren’t good enough.
I’m still excited.
Well, technically Gamescom is after E3, so whatever Nintendo’s got in E3, that’s pretty much it.
I like to think of this as a good thing though; they must have a real blast of an E3 show if they don’t even have to show it again two months later.
