The Wii U GamePad doubles as a TV remote [updated]

Wii U TV Remote

It turns out that the Wii U GamePad has the ability to function as a beautiful, touchscreen remote control for your television set. There is a button on the front of the controller that enables this functionality.

Update: Picture added!

The Wii U GamePad features clickable analog sticks

As the title says, it was revealed that the Wii U GamePad’s recently added analog sticks are, in fact, clickable. Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gamers will probably like this.

The Wii U controller’s official name is…

Wii U Controller

Iwata just announced that the Wii U controller’s official name is the Wii U GamePad. It’s a throwback to the original NES’s controller, which was called the NES GamePad.

Nintendo will focus on Wii U games during E3

Satoru Iwata just announced on Nintendo Direct that they will focus primarily on Wii  U software during E3, so he is taking the time to explain the hardware on the stream right now.

No Wii U games on Nintendo Direct today

There won’t be any new information on specific Wii U games in today’s Nintendo Direct broadcast, as Nintendo announced on their Facebook page. Shame, but it just makes the wait for E3 that much more exciting!

Bloober Team is bringing “Medium” to the Wii U

Medium Game Logo

That mysterious phone call that went out over the weekend turned out to be a viral marketing stunt not for the Wii U itself, but for a game coming to it known only as Medium.

Medium is developed by Bloober Team, a Polish studio, and the game is coming to the Wii U as well as pretty much every other platform under the sun. Not much is known about it except that it will offer a “completely new model of gameplay”. There is a teaser site for it located here, but not much to see on it.

New Wii U info is coming at 3:00 PM PDT today

Nintendo Direct Pre-E3 Email

Nintendo sent out an email to let the world (or in this case, their Club Nintendo members) know that Iwata will reveal brand new, pre-E3 Wii U news at 3:00 PM PDT today (to see what time that is in your timezone, click here). The announcement will be broadcast in the form of a Nintendo Direct episode, which will be streamed right here. We’ll be here at Wii U Go to cover everything Wii U-related that comes out of it, of course.

It’s about time Nintendo themselves threw us a bone, eh?

“Have you heard about Wii U?”

Wii U Vault

Nintendo have been busy phoning journalists this weekend, giving them a brief message in what seems to be a viral marketing stunt designed to get the masses talking about the Wii U. The brief voice message says:

Have you heard about Wii U? If not… you will.

Not much I can really say about this, except that the viral part of it is really working! People are definitely getting more hyped up for the Wii U as E3 approaches.

Update: This turned out to be a promotion for a Wii U game called Medium, not the Wii U itself. Read more about it here!

Wii U to launch with a Mario game

Spike’s Geoff Keighley revealed that the Wii U is going to come out and launch with a Mario game on Day 1. Refusing to reveal anything else, this leaves a ton of possibilities up in the air – will it be another epic 3D adventure? Or perhaps a laid-back sports game? Maybe an early coming of Mario Kart?

Regardless, anything with Mario’s face on it tends to do well commercially, so it is a positive announcement however you look at it. What do you think this elusive Mario game will be?
