Rumour: Crytek got Crysis running on the Wii U

Apparently a Crytek employee got the upcoming shooter Crysis 3 running on the Wii U. However, this is not a sign that they are developing the game for the Wii U as they were just seeing what the console could do.

The rumour also claims that the Wii U was able to run the game at 30-35 FPS in 720p HD. It was also claimed that the Crytek employee thinks the Wii U can run Crysis at 1080p HD if the controller is turned off. However, they were unable to test out that theory as they couldn’t turn the controller off with the dev kit they had. The controller itself is apparently able to stream the game at 480p. The game was said to have great lighting and particle effects on par with the PC version.

If this is true it certainly adds new discussions for the Wii U ‘power debate’ but I would suggest that you take this rumour with a truckload of salt.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 is coming to next gen consoles

Ubisoft’s sequel to Beyond Good and Evil (which released on the PS2, GameCube, Xbox and PC in 2003), has now been reconfirmed to be in development and it has been strongly hinted to be coming to the next generation of consoles. In a video interview, creative director Michel Ancel said:

We are in an active creation stage and at this moment we are only focusing on the game and making it the best game that we can. I can say that it’s a very ambitious game and we need some tech to achieve that ambition. We focus on the game. We create it first, then we’ll see what can run it. We don’t say 2013 because we don’t know when it will come. We’re working to create a great game and it needs more tech.

Last year,  Ancel did say the game wasn’t coming to this generation of consoles because of technical issues and the scope of the game.

EA think the Wii U is “absolutely” next gen

There has been quite a debate going on about where the Wii U ‘sits’, in terms of console generations, ever since it was revealed at E3 2011. Some people have described the Wii U as a machine in-between this generation and the next, others believe that the Wii U is truly a next generation console and some have claimed it is not as powerful as this generation of HD consoles.

Adding to this to this debate, EA’s Cam Weber has claimed that the Wii U is truly a next generation console. In an interview with Game Informer, when asked whether the Wii U was a next generation console he said:

Absolutely. It’s a [new] platform with a new controller input, so we’ll do everything we can to deliver an experience that will take advantage of the hardware for that consumer.
