Final Fantasy XIV may be considered for other consoles

Final Fantasy XIV

Final Fantasy XIV has had, to put it lightly, a very rocky start. The game was released in a poor way and was met with a hail of negative reviews. However, slowly but surely they seem to be getting the game back on track and ready for a release on the PlayStation 3 but what of releases on other consoles?

Square Enix have shown some interest in the Wii U in the past and seem to be generally positive about the console.

Dragon Quest X beta releases in Japan to a few problems

Dragon Quest X

Dragon Quest X Wii U, the MMORPG which is set to release in Japan on the 30th March seems to have encountered a few problems. Apparently, Japanese gamers who have been trying to access the newly released beta on the Wii U have been faced with an error message instead. It is said to be due to a program inside the Wii U which is preventing access.

However, Nintendo are already working on addressing the error so that gamers will be able to try out the MMO and I am pretty sure they will get the problem sorted out soon enough. Although a release date for Dragon Quest X Wii U has been set for Japan there is still no news on whether the game will be releasing in other territories.

We have nothing to worry about regarding Smash Bros. Wii U

Super Smash Bros

Earlier this year, Masahiro Sakurai stated that he was suffering from Repetitive Strain Injury and that he was unsure of how this would affect the progress of Super Smash Bros. Wii U. This seems to have created a wave of fear about the upcoming Wii U game but Sakurai has tweeted some assurance about the development to those who are worried.

Thanks a lot of encouragement messages. Please don’t worry about my injury & SMASH BROS development

So there you have it, Mr. Sakurai seems to have everything under control.

Toki Tori 2 for the Wii U is “finished”

Toki Tori 2

Toki Tori 2 by Two Tribes has finally reached completion and is “in the hands of Nintendo”. The puzzle-platformer, which will have features such as using the Gamepad as a camera and a level editor (not available at launch), should be making its way to the Wii U in a matter of weeks.

It’s now up to Nintendo’s LOT check teams in both Europe and America to certify the game. Sometime between now and when they complete it, we’ll know the exact launch date. It is probably just a few weeks away!

However, if you are literally shaking with anticipation the Two Tribes team have a made a time lapse video of them playing the entire game. Keep reading to have a peek.

TT Fusion think Lego City will be the “best game on the Wii U”

Lego City: Undercover

In an interview with NowGamer, lead developer Loz Doyle has explained that he believes Lego City: Undercover will be the “best game on the Wii U”. His confidence in the game also had him mentioning that he thinks it will sell consoles for Nintendo.

I hope other developers don’t mind me saying this, but this is the best game on the Wii U at the moment. I think the game is eagerly awaiting by many people and I’m sure that it will sell consoles for Nintendo. I also think it’s got real long term appeal, I don’t see it getting old for the life of the Wii U so I hope it will be a huge success. I can’t imagine the game working on any other system.

He also goes on to say that the Gamepad fired up creativity in the development studio.

Will the Thief reboot make its way to the Wii U?

Thief

It has recently been announced that the enjoyable stealth franchise Thief is getting the reboot treatment. It was first announced that the Thief franchise would be getting a new member in 2009 but not much was heard of the game after that. According to Gameinformer, the game will feature the ability to pickpocket, the ability to upgrade equipment and supplies, a navigation beacon to guide players and multiple stealth modes.

The big question however is whether or not the game will be making its way to the Nintendo Wii U.

Nintendo have an NFC project in the works?

Skylanders

We’ve known for some time that the Wii U Gamepad would possess near field communication technology (NFC) but now that the console has released it is a feature that rarely gets discussed.

For those of you who don’t know, NFC is the technology used in the game Skylanders to transport figurines into the game. The upcoming title Disney Infinity will also have this feature. In an interview with Polygon Shigeru Miyamoto seemed to tease that Nintendo may have an NFC project up its sleeve.

Updated: Minecraft for Wii U is “very unlikely”

Minecraft

While speaking to iGamer, lead designer Jens Bergensten mentioned, that though not completely impossible, it was very unlikely that Minecraft would be making its way to the Wii U.

In the interview he also stated that once Microsoft’s exclusivity deal for Minecraft runs out they were looking to consider releasing Minecraft on other consoles.

Microsoft has an exclusivity deal for consoles. When it runs out we’ll consider Minecraft for PlayStation, but Wii U is very unlikely.

Hopefully something changes because the possibilities of Minecraft and the Wii U Gamepad coming together could be very interesting.

Update: Jen Bergensten has responded to the media storm surrounding his statement by altering what he said to something less dooming.

The reason I said that is that the Wii U hasn’t even been mentioned when we’re talking about Minecraft platforms. However, I’m only responsible for the PC and Pocket editions, so the question wasn’t mine to answer. The Wii U is no more likely than any other platforms, but no less either.
