An image has been making its rounds on the Internet, which is purported to be a leaked fact sheet for the next Super Smash Bros. game – or Super Smash Bros. Universe, as it is titled in the document.

Crytek are “very happy” with the Wii U

Crysis 2 Screenshot

It sounds like CryEngine will be pumping out graphics like this on the Wii U.

This is certainly a more uplifting piece of news than the last quip we heard from Crytek about the Wii U. Cevat Yerli, the company’s CEO, has put all doubt about the system’s power to rest, saying that their team is “very happy” with the specs.

The specs are very good. It’s a challenge for designers, but once thought through it can add value, and that’s what ultimately important. Our guys in Nottingham they are very happy with their tests on the dev kits and they’re excited about it.

After all these rounds of “maybe, maybe not” from developers, seeing a developer with as much stature as Crytek enthused about the Wii U is certainly a good thing. Now, all we need is a game announcement from them…

Five new Metro: Last Light screenshots from TGS

THQ released five new screenshots of Metro: Last Light at TGS, and they’re looking beautiful. Considering that these are from the multiplatform release of the game for the “HD twins”, it’s possible that the Wii U version may look even better when it hits later.

New Ninja Gaiden 3 details, screenshots, and trailer from TGS

Tecmo Koei and Team Ninja released some new information, a trailer, and a batch of screenshots of Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge at TGS this week. The game’s story will focus on a conflict between Ryu Hayabusa and an as-of-yet unknown, masked villain who blurs the lines between “hero and villain, good and evil,” and is written by Masato Kato, who was previously responsible for the original Ninja Gaiden on the NES as well as Chrono Trigger.

The game will also have a strong online component featuring both co-operative and competitive modes. The press release I received teased a concept dubbed “Ninja World” in which “players control and customize an ordinary ninja to try to advance him to the top where Ryu Hayabusa himself reigns.”

The Ninja Gaiden games are known for their brutal difficulty, and Team Ninja are addressing that, too, with the new “Play Style” system. This will give players the option between “Hero Mode” and “Ninja Mode” – the former of which guards against attacks automatically and provides evasion assists, while the latter provides no assistance to the player whatsoever. We’re starting to see many developers adding features like these to their games these days to make them more accessible to wider crowds, and I think it was a good move on Team Ninja’s side. However, it remains to be seen how Play Style will be treated when playing online.

Wii U Go turns one year old!

As of today, exactly 365 days have passed since I created Wii U Go. I started this blog last September, long before we had heard anything about Project Café, with the mission to bring all sorts of news and juicy rumours about the Wii’s successor together on a single, convenient blog. Back then, it went under the name Wii 2 Blog.

Today, I’ll be celebrating this event in Wii U Go’s history with this commemorative article recapping the best Wii U/Wii 2/Wii HD/Project Café stories of the past year. You may also have noticed that the blog’s design has received an overhaul. That’s ’cause I’ve switched it to my new Xenos theme – an entirely custom look I’ve been working on for the past three months, consisting of roughly 3,000 lines of code. It’s sleeker, cleaner, faster, and easier to work with from my end than the old theme ever was, and I’ve engineered it for the best possible reader experience. I hope you enjoy it.

Lastly, as a thank-you gift to all of my readers, I won’t be running any of those ugly ads for the next 30 days, letting you take in our content and the Xenos theme without anyone trying to sell you a new TV while you’re here.

Now, the article itself lies just past the break!

Is Sonic Generations being considered for the Wii U?

Yes, if the website TSSZ‘s anonymous source is to be believed. According to TSSZ a source has told them that SEGA are considering ports of Sonic Generations for the Wii U.

The source also said that the likelihood of the game making it to the Wii U will depend on the existing versions of the game selling well. As well as this the anonymous source has also mentioned that even if SEGA Generations does not make it to the Wii U there is another Sonic game being developed for the system.

Like always, I will say that the reliability of these rumours are always in doubt but a Wii U port of Sonic Generations is not too farfetched to be believed. However, a Wii U Sonic Generations game seems to go directly against the comments of SEGA’s Alan Pritchard who dampened hopes of a Wii U version in an interview with GameSpot.

Lots of high-resolution pictures of Zelda Wii U demo

Future, a large publishing firm, has published a number of high-resolution photographs of the Zelda and New Super Mario Bros. Mii tech demos Nintendo showed off at E3. They’re off-screen, so some of them are a little blurry, but they look absolutely beautiful nonetheless. Hit the break for a gallery! Continue reading…

New Dragon Quest X Online trailer to be shown at TGS

Dragon Quest X Online Logo

According to the official Dragon Quest X Online website, we can expect Square Enix to release a new trailer for the game at TGS following the one shown at this week’s conference. Seeing as it’s one of Square Enix’s biggest releases in the near future, I think it’s fair to expect we may hear a few new details about the game, too.

UPDATE: The original trailer was removed from Youtube. Luckily, I saved a copy of it, which I’ve uploaded after the break.

The reveal trailer for Dragon Quest X Online has made it onto Youtube, and it’s looking absolutely fantastic. Continue reading…

Dragon Quest X is coming to the Wii U, save data will be transferable

Dragon Quest X Wii U

Square Enix just held a press conference dedicated to Dragon Quest, and it was announced there that Dragon Quest X, which we only knew was coming to the Wii, would also make an appearance on the Wii U, confirming previous speculation we had heard about such a port.

The games will be functionally identical, but the Wii U version will feature significantly better graphics. The best part? Iwata himself came on stage to announce that you’ll be able to transfer your save data to the Wii U version of the game once that comes out, so you can start your Dragon Quest X adventure now and continue it on the Wii U afterwards (though it does sound like you’ll need to buy two copies of the game).

Some 3DS connectivity was also hinted at, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see it happen, given that the 3DS is easily able to connect to both the Wii and the Wii U.

All in all, it’s certainly a welcome announcement, though it does eerily remind me of how Nintendo announced at the last minute that the GameCube’s swansong, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, would also serve as one of the Wii’s definitive launch titles.
