Toki Tori 2 may have Steam Cloud support

Two Tribes, who are responsible for the development of Toki Tori 2, recently made a tweet hinting that the game may have Wii U and Steam cross support. Simply tweeting, “Cross platform PC/Wii U saves! Wouldn’t that be nice ;)” one could assume this as fact, but it may still be too early to say.

This could, however, mean that one could swap save data between the two games, allowing for easier mobility for those who plan on having the game on both Steam and the Wii U.

First trailer & gameplay footage of Epic Mickey 2 to be revealed next week?

Epic Mickey

GameTrailers have booked some exclusive time with Junction Point and Warren Spector, and there’s a good chance that Epic Mickey 2 will be a major focus of their next episode, which airs on March 22.

GTTV will have the world exclusive reveal trailer and first gameplay anywhere of Warren Spector’s next yet-to-be-announced game. It’s going to be …notably significant.

Hardly anything is known about Epic Mickey 2, but it’s more likely than not Spector’s current project, and the above blurb – especially the last two words – seem to really be hinting at it. There’s a chance the game might come to the Wii U, although this has yet to be confirmed by an official source. Hopefully, we’ll find out next week!

The Xbox 720 will not be shown or released this year

Xbox Logo

There have been a lot of rumours and rumblings about the Xbox 360’s successor. We haven’t reported on most of them since this is a Wii U blog, after all, but this particular one is worth pointing out because it’s great news for the Wii U.

According to Bloomberg, Microsoft plan to launch the Xbox 720 next year, with a possible reveal at E3 2013, but have absolutely no intention of revealing the console this year.

What does this mean for Nintendo? The Wii U will have a full year’s head start on its competition, which – especially if it’s priced right – can give it the chance to really get out there and get into people’s homes, as it will be the only eighth-generation console for quite a while. Microsoft used this strategy with the Xbox 360, and the momentum the console picked up early on is still with it to some degree.

The gameplay in Assassin’s Creed 3 changes with the seasons

Assassin's Creed 3

Assassin’s Creed 3 features changing seasons, which will affect the game’s mechanics. For instance, snow will slow down your movement, and might even block paths entirely in winter. As the in-game seasons change, you may, for instance, find traveling via tree-hopping to be a more effective way to get around. This sounds like a really c00l addition that will add a little extra variety to what’s sure to be a massive, sprawling adventure.

The game will also include a number of significant historical events like the Boston Tea Party, the Boston Massacre, the Battle of Bunker Hill, the Siege of Boston, the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere, and the Great Fire of 1776. It’s like social studies class, but an order of magnitude more awesome.

Sonic is a “perfect fit” for Wii U, according to SEGA

Sonic Generations

SEGA’s Takashi Iizuka, who leads Sonic Team, thinks that Sonic and the Wii  U were meant to go together. He explains that the Wii “created that living room experience with families, and it had great success,” and that “adding the controller, and in a sense upgrading the Wii, [the Wii U] has got potential to further that and increase its customer base.” Because he sees Sonic as a family-friendly franchise, he believes that it’s a great fit for Nintendo’s new console.

The Wii was an extremely successful platform. It was totally global. It went into the families that maybe would not have picked up a home console before. It created that living room experience with families, and it had great success. Now, adding the controller, and in a sense upgrading the Wii, it has got potential to further that and increase its customer base. I feel Sonic is the right fit because it is that kind of family experience game. I do feel Wii U is applicable to Sonic. But how we will apply using the controller to Sonic is something we’re still thinking about at the moment.

There is no known Sonic game currently in development for the Wii U, and Iizuka debunked the Sonic Dimensions rumour yesterday. But his enthusiasm for the console seems genuine, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we heard an announcement for a Sonic Wii U game in the near future.

Is Grand Theft Auto V coming to the Wii U?

Grand Theft Auto V Logo

We’ve heard the Grand Theft Auto V spiel several times already, and the rumour returns once again. This time, the analyst firm Sterne Agee expects the game to launch in the first quarter, and cites a Wii U version of it as one potential cause for the delay.

Now, this is a prediction from an analyst group that has no direct connection to the developers, so there’s none of that “friend of a friend’s anonymous source” chatter at work here. However, considering that the Wii U will not miss the holiday season, it’s not out of the question that Rockstar Games would want to capitalize on the new platform that will have press and fans buzzing.

So… the elusive Grand Theft Auto V. Will it or will it not come to the Wii U? I’d love to hear your thoughts on that question, so leave them in the comments.
