Nintendo filed patents for 3D/HD display for controller

It seems that Nintendo weren’t only interested in 3D for their newest handheld, but also for the Wii U. Patents filed in September 2011 by the company talk about how the MD (mobile display), in other words the controller screen, may have a 3D display.

The patent also hints at 3D output to an SD (standard display) such as a television screen. It seems unlikely that the final controller will have a 3D display but it’s interesting to see that Nintendo had considered including it.

Another patent hints that Nintendo was also considering a HD display for the controller. This seems the more likely to happen between the two, but it is unlikely that the controller will change its form now.

Capcom still won’t confirm or deny Resident Evil 6 Wii U

Would you like to see Resident Evil 6 on the Wii U?

Resident Evil Revelations was released on the Nintendo 3DS to critical acclaim, but it is still not clear whether the Wii U will be getting some Resident Evil love as well.

Senior Vice President of Capcom, Christian Svensson, has been answering Resident Evil fans’ questions on the Capcom forums. When one user asked about the possibility of the upcoming Resident Evil 6 making it to the Wii U Svensson responded with:

We’ve made no announcements to this end at this point. I can’t say more than that right now.

This comment seems to neither confirm or rule out the possibility of Resident Evil 6 on the Wii U. Capcom recently announced the formats that Resident Evil 6 would be coming to as PS3, Xbox 360 and a PC version to follow, with no mention of the Wii U. Which begs the question, if Resident Evil 6 is coming to Nintendo’s next home console, why the secrecy?

Masachika Chiwata, producer of Resident Evil: Racoon City, and game designer Kenji Matsuura expressed interest in the Wii U last year but did not confirm that any Resident Evil games were in development for it.

Dragon Quest X to feature taking and sharing of screenshots

A new feature of the upcoming Dragon Quest X Online for the Wii and Wii U will be the ability to take in-game screenshots and share them with friends.

Using the “photo machine” feature of the game, players will be able to take screenshots while playing which can then be uploaded to a special website to be viewed by friends.

Square Enix suggested that this feature could be used to create a journal of your adventures around the Dragon Quest world, to take epic group pictures with your friends or to take pictures of intense battles.

Fittingly, Square Enix have also released a new batch of screenshots with this news, which you can check out after the break.

Is Assassin’s Creed 3 coming to the Wii U?

During an earnings call yesterday, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that Assassin’s Creed 3 will be releasing on October 30th, revealing that the game has been in development for three years. Guillemot also mentioned that it would be the “the biggest launch in Ubisoft history.”

However, the question is, will Assassin’s Creed 3 be making its way to the Wii U? It seem very likely as we already know that an Assassin’s Creed title is coming to the system. Ubisoft have also been quite supportive of the Wii U since its reveal at E3. Would you like to see Assassin’ Creed 3 come to the Wii U?

Ghost Recon Online trailer explains the game’s three classes

A new trailer released by Ubisoft talks us through the three classes that feature in the upcoming video game Ghost Reacon Online. The three classes that will feature in the game are: Assault, Specialist, and Recon. Ghost Recon Online is set to release on the PC and the Wii U.

Feature: Could the Wii U revolutionize sci-fi video games?

Who hasn’t, when they were a kid, imagined they were a space commander, whipping round a toy building brick as if it was some sort of high tech device? Or tapped away at the remote controller to send urgent messages back to the space base?

Okay, that was probably just me, but the Wii U has the potential to create an intense sci-fi experience in a videogame by bringing the player closer to the sci-fi world. How?

The Wii U’s touch screen has opened up a plethora of options for game developers that could enhance a sci-fi video game, turning a mere controller to a HUD device, a sensor scanner, or a communicator. Aliens: Colonial Marines is one sci-fi video game that shows developers’ creative juices are already running.

[Video] Fan-made Zelda Wii U trailer

Since the Legend of Zelda demo running on the Wii U was shown at E3, we’ve been hungry for Zelda HD. However, we are probably in for a long wait before we can get our hands on it. One fan has decided to make the wait slightly more bearable by creating a Zelda Wii U trailer for the fictional game, The Legend of Zelda The Lost Oracle. See below and post your thoughts.

Square Enix planning for Dragon Quest X’s future

Dragon Quest X Online for the Wii still has some months before its release, with the Wii U version further away still, but Square Enix is already preparing for the future.

Dragon Quest X Online‘s producer, Yosuke Saito,  is recruiting staff for the “second package” of the game.

The new team will work on the expanding world of Dragon Quest X Online. Some of the positions being advertised include programmers and planners for UI, battle, world and player experience.

Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs slated for Wii U

You may or may not remember the announcement of Saber Rider and the Star Sherrifs for the Nintendo 3DS and iPhone back in 2011. It was later revealed that the game would also be making its way to the Wii, Xbox Arcade, and PlayStation Network. This week, Firehazard revealed their E3 footage of the game – but crucially, it seems that the game will also be making its way to the Wii U.

Siliconera have reported that the game will be coming to the Wii U; and going by the info section of the game’s Facebook page, it seems like it will no longer be coming to the Wii but making its way to the Wii U instead.

For those not in the know, Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs is an on-rails shooter. You can watch the E3 2011 demo after the break.

Wii U version of Double Fine’s new project is ‘possible’

Tim Schafer of Double Fine has suggested the possibility of Wii U support in a tweet not long ago. Double Fine, responsible for games such as Brutal Legend and Psychonauts, recently started a campaign to gain funding for a  new project. The new game will be a classic point-and-click adventure.

When asked by a fan on Twitter whether a Wii U version of the new project would be “likely,” Schafer responded:

While this tweet is hardly a confirmation, it will be interesting to see whether this initial interest will develop into a game for the Wii U.
