TimeSplitters 4 is ‘not in development’ for Wii U

In a response to CVG, Crytek  have seemingly killed the rumours that TimeSplitters 4 is in development for the Wii U or any other console for that matter.

We first heard about the TimeSplitters 4 Wii U rumours a few months ago  and two days ago Aussie Gamer reported that a source of OXM had seen the game running. That could still be true as they could have started development on the game and then it was cancelled. A Crytek spokesperson had this to say: “No, it’s not in development.”

Before the spokesperson was pressed for a more serious answer they gave quite a jokey statement:

The Wii version of the game will be releasing in Japan this August. The release date of Dragon Quest X Wii U is still unconfirmed.

Aliens: Colonial Marines multiplayer video

Gearbox have previously mentioned that multiplayer is a “big deal” for them so it’s great to finally get some idea of what the multiplayer will be like. The game’s multiplayer modes will feature ‘Team Deathmatch’ which will focus on humans Vs. aliens. The video preview is from the human point of view.

Full digital downloads but no pricing at E3

During an earnings briefing today, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata announced that they are planning full digital game distribution for the Wii U. These digital download titles will be available the same day as the retail versions.

Consumers will also be able to buy digital software from retailers who will then issue a 16 digit code which would then be input into Nintendo’s digital shop/eshop. This service will be coming to the 3DS later this year and will be available from launch with Nintendo’s next home console.

Iwata also mentioned that they would not be revealing the price for the Wii U at E3 2012 but that they would be showing its final form and the software lineup for that year.

Rumours: Metroid in development for Wii U and more

These rumours from the source website Nintendotown was posted a few months ago but it’s still worth a mention now. Firstly, a new Metroid game is in the works for the Wii U and is being built using Unreal Engine 3. Futhermore, a tech demo of Metroid Wii U was shown.

This rumour does have a little plausability due to the fact that last year, Katsuya Eguchi, said that we would at some point see a Metroid game on the Wii U.

The next, and slightly more unrealistic rumour is that Android OS is integrated into the Wii U. This would be quite interesting if it turns out to be true.

The source website is French so it’s worth noting that Google Translate was used to decifer the site.

Square Enix releases new Dragon Quest X trailer

Square Enix have released a new Dragon Quest X trailer today. The MMO game will be coming to the Wii in August in Japan. No date has been set for the Wii U version which is probably due to the fact that the Wii U’s own release date hasn’t been announced. Check out the trailer below.

Nintendo’s Wii U sales target is 10.5 million

Nintendo has set its combined sales targets for the Wii U and the Wii in the upcoming financial year and they are expecting to shift ten million Wii U and Wii units. Their software sales target for Wii U and Wii is 70 million units.

To put that in perspective, 9.84m Wii consoles and 102m software units were shifted in the past 12 months. The Nintendo 3Ds sold 13.53 million units last year which fell slightly below the 14 million sales predicted.

More TimeSplitters 4 development rumours

A few months ago GameOn.net’s source told them that TimeSplitters  would be coming to the Wii U as well as other consoles and would be announced at E3 2012.

Now more TimeSplitters 4 rumours have surfaced, this time Offical Xbox Magazine’s sources have told them that they have seen the TimeSplitters 4 game running.

Trusted OXM sources have claimed that they’ve seen TimeSplitters 4 running. That’s no guarantee that it’ll be released – at least one version of Star Wars: Battlefront 3 was cancelled without ever being announced – but it’s a promising sign. If we do get a proper sequel, we’re likely to see the old games appear, too.

As with all rumours they are best eaten with a pinch of salt, hopefully E3 2012 will clear up these TimeSplitters 4 rumours.
