More hints that Retro are working on Star Fox Wii U

Earlier this year, ONM seemed to tease that they had insider information that Retro Studios were working on a new Star Fox game.

Now, the website Techtroid have been told by their sources that a new Star Fox game is in the works and will be revealed at E3 2012. The source explained that though the Wii U game would be shown at E3 it would not be a launch title for Nintendo’s new home console.

After rickonami’s HD remake of the classic Star Fox intro I am feverishly awaiting a high definition  game for our favourite fox and so it will be interesting to see if these rumours are true.

Renegade Kid game on the Wii U “is possible”

Renegade Kid, who are responsible for the first person shooter Dementium: The Ward for DS and Mutant Mudds for the 3DS, have said that a title from them on the Wii U is a possibility.

In an interview with Nintendo Enthusiast, creative director Jools Watsham, said “it is possible” when questioned about the possibility of a Wii U title from Renegade Kid. That’s not much to go on for now but Watsham did tease the possibility of a Mutant Mudds sequel:

Yes, a sequel will happen one day. I must keep the details secret for now. Sorry.

Hopefully, the sequel will make its way to the Wii U’s download service.

Patent for a Wii U controller cradle

It appears that Nintendo might have filed a patent for a cradle for the Wii U.

It looks like it might work similarly to the Nintendo 3DS charging cradle and could be used to charge the controller when not in use.

It is unknown whether this will be an actual device as many patents are filed and then never materialise. Only time will tell whether this device will come with the Wii U console.

Square Enix details Puku Land in Dragon Quest X

Square Enix has given more details on Puku Land; one of the major places in Dragon Quest X. The continent is run by a royal family, Queen Arwe and her son, Prince Raguas, from the major city of Megistrorys.

The continent also contains other cute sounding places such as Pukulet, Popola, Kira Kira Windmill Tower and Rinkulu.

With the release of the Wii version of Dragon Quest X in Japan only three months away hopefully it won’t be that long before we start to hear information about the Wii U version of the game. So far, Dragon Quest X has only been given a Japanese release and the important question of localisation of the game to other regions remains unanswered.

SEGA working on an unannounced title for Wii U?

A LinkedIn entry by SEGA’s Matthew Hickman seems to suggest that the company is working on an unannounced title that will be making its way to the Wii U, PC, Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network.

The entry doesn’t go into any specific details but I think we can be certain that it will be a digital title for the Wii U’s download service. Hopefully, we will hear more about the title soon.

What do you think it could be?

LostWinds is coming to the Wii U?

Those few weeks before E3 are always filled with rumours from the very believable to the not-so-much and this year is no exception. According to the French website, Live Gen, Frontier Developments are working on a LostWinds game for the Wii U.

Apparently the site was told ‘in private’ that a LostWinds game was in developement for the Wii U and Live Gen also reported that recent job postings by the site hinted that they were working on ‘next gen’ consoles.

Like all rumours I would take this with a pinch of salt and because most of this information is being deduced from Google Translate I would approach this information hesitantly. However, it’s not an unbelievable rumour as LostWinds was originally developed for WiiWare so a sequel on the Wii successor’s own download service does seem plausible.

Spector: “no comment” on Epic Mickey game for Wii U

Epic Mickey 2 was announced to be coming to the PS3, Xbox 360 and the Wii but not Nintendo’s next generation console the Wii U. Last month, Warren Spector explained that the game would not be coming to the Wii U because it was well into development before he heard about Nintendo’s next home console.

In a recent interview with Official Nintendo Magazine, Spector explained that he hadn’t ruled out an Epic Mickey game for the Wii U but that he just wasn’t going to comment on it right now:

Certainly if you’re looking for a broad, family audience, Nintendo is the place, right? I wouldn’t go so far as to say we’re never going to do a Wii U game, I’m just saying no comment right now.

Epic Mickey on the Wii was quite a delightful experience, so I hope Spector will not deny us an Epic Mickey game for the Wii U for too long.

Treyarch hint at possible Wii U version of Black Ops II

Update: It seems that a Wii version might not be in the works after all. The Call of Duty: Black Ops II 2 forum says:

“Members of the Wii Community — When migrating our forums from Call of Duty:  Black Ops to the new site, the “Wii” section migrated with it, which should not have been the case. To date, we have only confirmed development for the Xbox  360, PS3 and PC. We apologize for any confusion that this may have caused. Please stay tuned here for any updates.”  Thanks to Derrick for the tip!

In an interview with Press Fire the head of Treyarch Studio, Mark Lamia, hinted at the possibility of a Wii U version of the recently announced Call of Duty: Black Ops II:

Ah! We’re not… we’re only talking about the other platforms at this time. But here’s what I can tell you: Treyarch has a long tradition of working on the Nintendo platforms. A long tradition.

If that is not a strong hint at the possibility of a Wii U version of the game then I don’t know what is. The game may also be coming to the Nintendo Wii as the  Call of Duty: Black Ops II site has a forum page for the console although no official comment about the game coming to the Wii has been made.

SEGA wouldn’t bring Aliens to Wii U if it was “inferior”

In a recent interview with Nintendo Connect Sega’s Craig Harris has hinted that the Wii U is not inferior to the current generation of consoles. It seems quite obvious that the Wii U will not be inferior to the PS3 and Xbox 360 but last month the internet was awash with rumours that the Wii U was not as powerful as this gen’s current HD consoles. According to Games Industry, one game developer working with the Wii U told them:

No, it’s not up to the same level as the PS3 or the 360. What does that mean? The graphics are just not as powerful.

Another developer also seemed to have the opinion that the Wii U wasn’t as powerful as the PS3 or Xbox 360.

Yeah, that’s true. It doesn’t produce graphics as well as the PS3 or the 360. There aren’t as many shaders, it’s not as capable. Sure, some things are better, mostly as a result of it being a more modern design. But overall the Wii U just can’t quite keep up.

But Sega’s Craig Harris seems to have a different view and explains that they wouldn’t be bringing Aliens: Colonial Marines to the Wii U if it was inferior to this generation’s HD consoles:

I don’t think we would be bringing the game to a system that would be inferior to current gen. (HD) systems.

Voice acting and stealth in Metro: Last Light

A THQ representative on the Metro: Last Light forums has posted answers from 4A games and THQ to fan’s questions. On the subject of voice acting one fan mentioned the ‘cheesy’ English voice acting in the previous Metro game and wondered whether the voice acting this time round would reflect the dark world that Metro: Last Light is set in. The answer was:

We’ve received a variety of feedback regarding the voice-acting in Metro 2033: many players loved it; some disliked it; but a majority of the time it came down to individual characters and personal preference. For example, “Khan” has always been a fan-favorite. However, we believe reaction to the voice-overs generally speaking is very subjective. We’re aware how important both the dialogue and quality of voice-acting is on a story and character driven game like Metro. With THQ’s help, we’re investing a lot more time into the voice recordings this time around. For now, all we can say is we hope you like the result! Regarding the ambient voices and battle chatter, this aspect of the game world is being completely re-done and will be much more extensive than in Metro 2033

Another fan asked whether it was possible to use stealth to go through the entire game without killing any enemies. The answer was:

It’s certainly possible to complete multiple levels without killing anyone. However, for narrative reasons it’s not possible to complete the entire game without killing any humans.

Metro: Last Light will release in  2013 on the Wii U, PS3, Xbox 360 and the PC
